Diabetes – Hereditary or a Learned Behavior?

According to the statistics, more than 80 percent of diabetics who are diagnosed each year have at least one family member with the disease.   However, most adult onset (Type 2) diabetics are diagnosed when people are over 40 and overweight.

Based on my more than three decades of clinical experiences and observation, diabetes that appears to be hereditary is actually a learned behavior.  People diagnosed with diabetes tend to copy the same dietary habit, mental attitude, and lifestyle from those of their parents who had diabetes.  When they break the cycle and adopt a healthier lifestyle, the so called “genes” no longer have effects on them.

The following is a good example:

Kathy was 45 years old and 60 pounds overweight when she came to my office.  Both of her parents had their legs amputated and died from complications of diabetes.  She was worried about getting diabetes and dying from it like her parents.  Because her diet mainly consisted of fatty and sugary foods in addition to her being overweight, I put her on our Herbal Detox (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea) as well as  Weight Management (Herbal Cocktail, Fitness Regularand Fitness Plus) programs.  She was also on our yeast-free nutritional program containing no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, no yeasts, no caffeine, no alcohol, nor chemicals.  She also walked daily for 30 to 60 minutes.

She was guided to write numerous letters to release her negative emotions toward her parents and siblings.  All of these actions were a drastic life-change for her.  However, she made up her mind that she did not want to die young miserably.  She stuck to the holistic program stringently until she lost 60 pounds (in about 7 months).  After that, she stayed on the maintenance program of the herbal products, and kept the healthier lifestyle.

More than 15 years had gone by since I first saw Kathy, and she has never developed diabetes.  Her contention is now, “So what if I had diabetic genes?!  I control them, instead of allowing them to control me!”
